Civil Engineering. Core Responsibilities & Technical Tasks ​Structural Analysis and Design: Performing detailed structural calculations, analyzing load distributions (dead, live, wind, and seismic loads), and designing reinforced concrete, steel, timber, or masonry structures using software such as ETABS, SAP2000, and STAAD Pro. ​Site Supervision and Construction Management: Managing daily site operations, supervising contractors and labor forces, ensuring strict adherence to engineering drawings, technical specifications, and health and safety (HSE) standards. ​Project Planning and Scheduling: Developing project timelines, critical path method (CPM) networks, and work breakdown structures (WBS) using management tools like Primavera P6 and MS Project to ensure timely project delivery. ​Cost Estimation and Quantity Surveying: Preparing bill of quantities (BOQ), material take-offs, preliminary budget estimates, cost forecasts, and evaluating interim payment certificates (IPC) for contractors. ​Infrastructure and Public Works Development: Designing municipal utilities, transportation networks, highways, drainage systems, water distribution networks, and wastewater treatment plants. ​Geotechnical and Soil Assessment: Evaluating soil test reports, calculating bearing capacity, determining foundation types (shallow, raft, or deep pile foundations), and designing slope stabilization measures. ​Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC): Inspecting construction materials (concrete slump tests, cube strength tests, steel tensile tests), approving shop drawings, and issuing Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) when work fails to meet project specifications. ​Contract Administration and Dispute Resolution: Reviewing FIDIC contract agreements, processing variation orders, handling claims, and ensuring compliance with local codes and regulatory requirements.
